Designer Interview: Kitman Figueroa

This week we’re talking to Kitman Figueroa! Kitman is a Malaysian designer now living in the heart of Texas with her husband, dog, and a whole bunch of yarn. She excels in lace design, and her shawls are truly amazing! Kitman’s pattern Azulejos is featured in our newest pattern booklet, Malabrigo Book 4.

Hi Kitman! Let’s dive right in- can you recall your very first “Malabrigo Experience”?

That will be my first triangle shawl design – Be.Leaf. I used a skein of Malabrigo Sock in Turner for that project and I fell in love with the softness of this yarn. I am a purple and green monster. I tend to buy yarn in these colors very very often.

And what was your first design with Malabrigo?
It is also Be.Leaf 🙂 but I have to mention Damask here. This is the shawl I designed for the Malabrigo Sock Yarn design competition and it got 3rd prize. I used a skein of Ochre sock yarn for the shawl and that is definitely a dream combination of work.

I remember seeing that one when it came out and thinking it was just gorgeous! Can you tell us why you choose to use Malabrigo in so many of your designs?
Malabrigo yarn is famous of its buttery softness and besides that, I love their colors!
What is your favorite project that you’ve made in Malabrigo?
That has to be Damask and Azulejos (in Malabrigo Book 4).

Azulejos, in Lace in color Purple Mystery. Soon to be available in Malabrigo Book Four!

And finally- what is your favorite colorway and base yarn?
For colorways, Archangel and Persia. For base, Sock and Rios.
