When I think of beautiful (and often wintery) motifs, Scandinavia always comes to mind- and this gorgeous Swedish Huckaback Hat by Lisa McFetridge is a wonderful example!
This Malabrigo Quickie Hat is one in a series of hats exploring world cultures and looking for new knitting inspiration in crafts, ethnic art and other areas not normally associated with knitting. Embroidery Samplers provided the Chickens in the first border, and Swedish Huck Weaving (which is really embroidery ) gave the idea for the angular motif in the upper section of the hat. Many Huck pieces remind me of reflecting pools, the bottom section often the mirror image of what is above. There is even a tip of the hat, if you will, to the Saami people, some of whom live in the north of Sweden, as the diamonds symbolize the sun to this indigenous ethnic group.. Three different inspirations blending into one hat in 3 sizes: Infant, Child & Adult, and all worked in soft Malabrigo Rios Worsted. The richness of the colors of Rios can’t be seen properly in a photo, the depth of the blues is amazing, like old, loved denim. It make a hat that is soft, warm & more than just a little Swedish. Enjoy.
What are Malabrigo Quickies?
Quickies are small, fast projects which require only one or two skeins of yarn. Approximately every two weeks we’re teaming up with a talented independent designer to present an exciting new accessory (or other “small object”) pattern, showcasing one of our many yarns and colorways.
