MFPP: Classics by Amy Miller

Classics - MFPP

Starting off 2014’s MFPP ebooks with a pow, we’ve got Amy Miller’s new delightfully wearable collection, “Classics“!

"Earl" in Merino Worsted, in Pale Khaki

"Frank" in Merino Worsted, in Pigeon

Amy describes her collection as:

A showcase of Malabrigo Merino Worsted — 3 sweaters and 2 accessory sets sure to keep you knitting and warm winter after winter. Every winter I find myself looking for an oversized sweater to wrap myself up in — this is how Earl was born. Long sleeves, overlapping fronts and a huge shawl collar- a sweater to live in. Harrison is a seed stitch front and a large cowl put a simple, modern twist on a classic pullover. Francis is a simple and stylish sweater dress with twisted stitches to add just the right amount of flair to what will surely be a wardrobe staple. Frank is an easy, soothing set to welcome in the winter. It’s simple enough to knit with friends and so cute and fresh you’ll want more than one color. And finally, Hilda uses doubled-up Merino Worsted for a quick set, while the simple cables keep it fun and interesting. Sure to be a winter classic!

So lovely! As I told Amy when she first sent me the pictures, I would wear each and every one of these, happily and constantly! All of them have that lovely “cozy thing that I can just throw on and wear anywhere” quality- which of course is what makes them Classics 😉

Malabrigo Quickies: Rama Lama by Justyna Lorkowska

Today’s stunning Quickie comes from designer Justyna Lorkowska of Lete’s Knits – introducing Rama Lama!!

Rama Lama in Merino Worsted, in Geranio and Pigeon

Justyna says:

Rama Lama is a seamless bottom-up cowl knitted all in one piece. It starts and finishes with Garter stitch. The body is worked in Beaded Stripes pattern based on simple knit, purl and slip stitches. It can be made in two sizes: cozy neck warmer and long infinity loop.

Each version of the design uses less than two skeins of Malabrigo Worsted, but if you have lots of small leftovers of this yummy base, this is THE design to stashbust them.

So gorgeous! I know what I’m doing with all my merino worsted scraps now, that’s for sure! You can check out Rama Lama on Ravelry here, or browse our past Quickies here.

What are Malabrigo Quickies?

Quickies are small, fast projects which require only one or two skeins of yarn. Approximately every two weeks we’re teaming up with a talented independent designer to present an exciting new accessory (or other “small object”) pattern, showcasing one of our many yarns and colorways.

Katya says:

September has always felt like the beginning of a new year to me. The light gets softer, the leaves start to turn, and families get ready for a new school year. This time of year is exciting: the season for cosy knits is here! I begin to long for crisp air, I bring out my hats and scarves, and I start to plan what I am going to knit next for my autumn wardrobe.
And this autumn I want to share my own collection of cosy knits: The Yarn Play Collection.

MFPP: Space by Joanne Scrace

Our first crochet ebook of the year!!

On the cover: Galactica in Lace, in Black and SFO Sky

What a fun collection! Nebulous color schemes and swirly motifs give these crocheted garments…wait for it….star quality. You might even say they’re…out…of…this…world? Hehehehe.

Neptune in Twist in Azul Profundo and Teal Feather

Joanne says:

The Space collection takes planets, stars and nebulae as its inspiration with a colour palette of black, grey, turquoise and purple. The collection includes four designs: Oberon is a fitted, long-line chunky weight cardigan with a raglan sleeve. Moon craters inspired the unusual edging worked in Worsted. Nebulous is a scoop necked top with set in sleeves and a pretty ripple pattern inspired by nebulae worked in the luxury Silky Merino. Galactica is a slim triangular scarf inspired by the Milky Way, made in alternating color rows of a starburst stitch pattern in Lace. And finally, Neptune is a warm and cosy shawl-fronted cardigan with gently sloped shoulders made in Twist. The bright random striping is inspired by the planet it is named for. All the designs are top-down and seamless.

This is my first collection and I really enjoyed working to a theme and choosing designs that were very different yet had common elements and a colour palette that runs through all of them. Each of the cardigans has a different top down construction method – its almost a primer in seamless crochet! I loved working with the Malabrigo yarns, the colours are so beautiful and all the yarns were an absolute joy to crochet with. If I had to pick one favourite favourite it would probably be the worsted I used to edge Oberon – it is so soft and plump.
