September Quickies: Tweedy Toppers
That crisp note is finally in the air, and there is a faint scent of pumpkin spice filtrating through every coffee shop, so fall must be just right around the corner—these Tweedy Toppers from KnitEchoChic fall perfection and the accessory to welcome cooler temperatures and falling leaves.
Lindsay managed to blend outer fashion and inner warmth in this sweet design. I love the faux tweed details she replicated by holding the two yarns together. The pattern is a tech-edited, test-knit, entirely written with a helpful diagram and even a how-to-video for the inner ribbing!

1: What is your favorite part of your Quickies design and why?
Holding Mora and Verano together. I’ve always loved the look of tweed, but you rarely find it in non-wool fibers. Experimenting one day, I double-stranded some Mora and Verano. The texture, the appearance, and the structure quickly won me over and determined the path for this quickie… make your wool-free faux tweed!
2: What should knitters pay attention to when working this pattern? Do you have any tips or tricks to make knitting this pattern easier?
I was picking up for the interior ribbing. To speak to as many different types of knitters as possible, in the pattern are the written directions, plus a diagram. Or, if you prefer videos, there is a full explanation on YouTube and a “quickies” version on IG.
3: What do you think knitters will enjoy the most about this project?
How quick they are! With large needles, the cuff part flies by. With descending circulars, the interior ribbing is finished without the need for tracking decreases in no time.
4: What does your design process look like?
Each time is a little different. For Tweedy Toppers, it started with the eureka on the double-stranding other fibers. I knew the Quickies call was coming, so I wanted to craft something easy, quick, and satisfying that highlighted the faux tweed. Not wanting to waste any leftovers, the interior ribbing came to mind to add a secret coziness and functionality to the beautiful cables on the cuffs. Tech editing and testing followed – thank you to those who took part! The final piece of this design was the self-photoshoot. Camera mom was unavailable, so Tweedy Toppers was captured with a tripod and clicker and a bit of acrobatics on the rocks!
5: What impact does the color of this project have on you? Did you make design choices based on the colorway name?
Chocolate and Simple Taupe blended beautifully together. I love the shine of the Simple Taupe and Chocolate; well, let’s say hot chocolate was the drink of choice with this project.

Tweedy Boot Toppers are written in size S (M, L, and XL) to fit a calf circumference of 12”/ 30.5cm (14”/ 35.5cm, 16”/ 40.5cm, 18”/ 46cm) with 1”/ 2.5cm of positive ease. They use a skein of Verna and a skein of Mora to produce the tweedy effect.
