Harmonic Convergence Cowl by Afifa Knits

We are so excited to share this absolute treat with you today! It’s time for the June Quickies pattern and this month, it is designed by the delightful Afifa, of Afifa Knits. We are absolutely pleased to introduce you to “Harmonic Convergence Cowl”, this cowl is worked up in just 2 skeins of Malabrigo’s Susurro, one of my favorite yarns for summer because it is a silk/linen/wool blend that is just absolutely light and breezy. Just pick 2 colors and then mix and repeat as many times as you would like to have a cowl to match your entire summer wardrobe in no time at all!

We asked Afifa to share a little bit about her design with us and this is what she had to say:

1: What is your favorite part of your Quickies design and why?

The shape and size which makes it the perfect accessory to jazz up any outfit. I love a piece I can just throw on as I walk out the door.

2: What should knitters pay attention to when working this pattern? Do you have any tips or tricks that will make knitting this pattern easier?

I think the cast-on and bind-off are extremely important. The cable cast-on and k2togtbl bind-off perfectly complement each other.

3: What do you think knitters will enjoy the most about this project?

It’s a quick knit with an engaging stitch pattern to keep it interesting.

4: Was there any particular inspiration you had when creating this piece?

This piece was inspired by a meteor shower.

5: What impact does the color of this project have on you? Did you make design choices

based on the color way name?

The color choices were serendipitous as they perfectly matched my inspiration.

6: What is your favorite color in Malabrigo’s catalog?

If I had to pick just one, it would be Teal Feather. It was the first Malabrigo colorway I ever

purchased and is still one of my favorites.

7: What is the one thing you wish people knew about you as a designer?

How much of myself I put into each design. Every piece I create is a labor of love.

8: What beverage are you most likely to have by your side while designing?

A cup of English Breakfast with milk.

I don’t know about you, but we’d love to join Afifa in a cup of tea and some knitting!

In case you haven’t had the chance to meet Afifa, here is a quick Bio for you:

Born in Pakistan and educated in Asia, Europe and the United States, I currently live in California. My work is informed by all these cultures. Passionate about bringing together elements of classic design from a variety of sources to create something new and original, I bring a modern sensibility and love of construction to the art of knitting. Since 2015, I have published a full wardrobe of garments from fingerless mittens, cowls, hats, scarves, shawls, sweaters, and more.
