Malabrigo quickies: Campfire Site Socks
Snuggling up by the campfire (or your fireplace!) with a hot chai latte and some knitting is one of my favorite things about the fall season. I always make sure to also have some cozy knit socks on my feet! October’s Quickies Pattern Campfire Socks hit all the right notes for me, and I hope they do for you as well. This pattern is knit up in one skein of Ultimate Sock, and the sample pattern features the Rosalinda colorway. The Campfire socks are worked cuff down with a heel flap and gusset decrease. They have a textured design with Right and Left Crossed stitches. The pattern is mirrored on right and left socks and comes in 4 sizes with 62 (66, 70, 74) sts. Sizes listed include approx 4 cm / 2” negative ease due to stretch in pattern. The foot length on this sock pattern is adjustable.
1: What is your favorite element of your design?
My favorite design element is the swinging cables that take center stage, mirroring a gentle wisp of campfire smoke. Also, using purl stitches for the gusset decreases should add some interest when working these socks.
2: What should knitters pay attention to when working this pattern? Do you have any tips or tricks to make knitting this pattern easier?
The pattern comes with both a chart and an entirely written design. Attention should be on when to do the left or right cable. The charts use different colors for left and right lines to assist with this.
3: What do you think knitters will enjoy the most about this project?
The pattern achieves a delightful and textured finish by incorporating over-one cables separated by knit stitches. Knitters will find inspiration and be motivated to continue their work, eagerly anticipating the mesmerizing effects of the lines twisting in opposite directions.
4: Was there any particular inspiration you had when creating this piece?
In this design journey, my primary focus was to create a textured pattern that would pay homage to the captivating colors offered by Ultimate Sock yarn. Once I settled on incorporating swinging cables, the pattern name naturally appeared. As I knitted these socks, I immersed myself in pleasant reflections of friendship and harmonious moments shared around a campfire in the heart of nature.
