Malabrigo quickies: Ivy Infinity Scarf
In the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, we somehow managed to overlook posting about Lindsey Roe’s stunning crochet design, Ivy Infinity Scarf. This is the perfect quickie design for our friends that crochet and it looks like a fantastic last-minute Valentine’s gift for a special friend. Worked up in Mecha, you might even be able to finish up a couple for some of the truly lovely people in your life!
Lindsey says that her heart beats for her husband, son & daughter. She has a mind that hunger to learn, imagine, create & innovate. Her soul longs for the mountains and the sea, and her hands ache for a crochet hook! She sounds like my kind of person for sure!
I’m so thrilled to be able to share her design Ivy Infinity Scarf and the creative process behind her work with you today!
1: What is your favorite part of your Quickies design and why?
My absolute favorite part of this design is the delicious, squishy texture the fabric gives. This is largely thanks to the exquisite chunky Mecha yarn, but also because of the density of the shell stitch used in the pattern.
2: What should crocheters pay attention to when working this pattern? Do you have any tips or tricks that will make knitting this pattern easier?
The shell stitch used in this scarf is quite simple. A tip to make placing the shells straight forward without having to count the 2-stitch skip in between is to simply make your shell stitches in each of the sc stitches from the row below – which will be the stitch at the bottom of the “valley” created between each shell.
3: What do you think crocheters will enjoy the most about this project?
I think they’ll be pleasantly surprised that such a simple and repetitive stitch can create a beautiful accessory with such a unique and elegant texture – in no time!
4: What does your design process look like?
I’m usually spontaneously inspired by something in nature and want to try to celebrate the inspiration through crochet. Whether that means creating a cute but realistic version of an animal through amigurumi, or whether it’s bringing an artistic interpretation of a natural colorway alive through a garment or accessory; I try to stay true to the origins of the vision that formed in my mind.
5: What is the one thing you wish people knew about you as a designer?
I design all my patterns with sustainability and purpose in mind. I want my designs to be functional and to celebrate eco-friendly yarns that put people and the planet first!
