January Quickies: Espejos

We are kicking off our 2021 Quickies patterns with a fabulous cowl AND fingerless mitts set from L'Atelier des Glénettes for you. This stunning set is knit up in Malabrigo Rios and takes just 2 skeins to have a set that will see you through winter.

The cables make this set just stand out and provide just that extra bit of something when you are knitting, but not overwhelming.  The hardest part might just be trying to decide what color I’m going to knit mine in because I could definitely use this set right now, how about you? (hello snow!)

I asked the designer Christine to share a little bit about her design with us and I’m happy to share with you what I learned!

1:What is your favorite part of your Quickies design and why?

I love the cables which move away and then converge again, creating a movement.

I love the buttons too, they make this set something stylish.

2: What should knitters pay attention to when working this pattern? Do you have any tips or tricks that will make knitting this pattern easier?

The cable pattern is rather easy. The knitter should pay attention to the fact that this pattern is worked once flat (for the cowl) and once in the round (for the mitts).

3: What do you think knitters will enjoy the most about this project?

The cables make this pattern very enjoyable, not boring at all, but not difficult either. As one knits, the cables form a design of undulating curves. This is a quick project too.

4: What does your design process look like?

I am often inspired by nature, its colors and the forms created by plants. When I have a design in mind, I make a sketch and I try to find the best stitch pattern or motif to realise it. Then I make a prototype.

5: Was there any particular inspiration you had when creating this piece?

Espejos means “mirror”. The cables form a series of mirrors on the cowl, in an Art Deco style. These can be the mirrors Nature holds to us; the color chosen (Pines) is perfect in this sense.

6: What is your favorite color in Malabrigo’s catalog?

My favourite color is Azules (I love blues).

7: What is the one thing you wish people knew about you as a designer?

I always create for someone I love and I think about while knitting.

8. What beverage are you most likely to have by your side while designing?

Tea ! exclusively, but I love all sorts of teas (black, green, white, with citruses or flowers…)

Thanks so much for sharing a little bit of the process with us Christine!
