Hygge Shawl KAL: Our Team's Favorite Caprino Color Combinations

With ten new Caprino colors just added to the palette, choosing your three shades for the Hygge Shawl KAL might be the hardest part of the whole project. Because of the shawl’s design, the relationship between all three shades plays an important role in the finished piece. The KAL kicks off September 18, and the pattern goes out to everyone who's registered as we get closer to that date.

To get you inspired, our team pulled our own favorite Caprino shades and put together palettes for the Hygge Shawl — some tonal, some high-contrast, some a little unexpected. Here's what we came up with.

How to Choose Your Colors

Because the shawl pairs two colors in each section, the relationship between all three shades plays an important role in the finished piece. Here’s a quick guide to making your combo selection fun and satisfying:

1. Swatch first Wind off a small length of each color and lay them side by side before committing — seeing the three together tells you more than the ball bands alone.

2. Decide your contrast level

  • High contrast (like a light neutral + a saturated color + a deep tone) makes each section pop.

  • Tonal palettes (three shades in the same family, varying mainly in value) create a softer, more blended look.

3. Think about value, not just hue Try to vary the lightness of at least one shade — three colors of similar value can start to blur together, even if the hues themselves are different.

4. Let Caprino's softness guide you Caprino's cashmere-merino blend has a subtle halo that softens color transitions naturally, so even bold combinations tend to look cohesive once blocked. Trust your eye, and don't be afraid to pair a color you already love with something new.
