Malabrigo quickies: Asbury Shawl
Shawls in a fingering weight yarn are the perfect summertime project, don’t you agree? I am delighted to share this Quickies project published in May (that was such a busy month, wasn’t it?). If you haven’t stumbled upon this one yet, I love that I get to share it with you today. Designed by Sarah Korth, the Asbury Shawl is an elegant crochet design that uses Mechita. Perfect to wear on vacation or to crochet while on vacation, this one is the perfect summer project for your hook.
As a natural teacher and creative, Sarah loves helping other crafters find joy and confidence through her patterns, blog, YouTube channel, online, and in-person classes. Every one of her designs is a tool to teach new skills through precise instructions, clear photos, and video tutorials. Sarah has also enjoyed teaching at several local yarn shops around the Midwest and has taught hundreds of crocheters how to crochet and expand their skills confidently.
1: What is your favorite part of your Quickies design and why?
I love purchasing yarn when I’m on vacation so I absolutely love that the Asbury Shawl can be made with one skein of souvenir yarn, is relaxing enough to take along as a vacation project. It’s also the perfect accessory to wear on any beach vacation!
2: What should crocheters pay attention to when working this pattern? Do you have any tips or tricks that will make crocheting this pattern easier?
This pattern intentionally has a simple, relaxing repeat. Just keep an eye out to make sure you don’t use over half your skein on your increases, and you’ll be great!
3: What do you think crocheters will enjoy the most about this project?
Crocheters will love the soothing repetitive stitches. It makes working up the Asbury Shawl so relaxing!
4: What does your design process look like?
Inspired by relaxing days by the water, I wanted to Asbury Shawl to be practical to wear on a beach or lake side vacation. It was also important to me that the shawl was a fun and relaxing project to take along on any vacation. I chose my stitches carefully so that the pattern would be open, beautiful, relaxing to work and really show off hand dyed yarn.
5: What is your favorite color in Malabrigo’s catalog?
Oh my goodness, how could I possibly choose? I really love the variegated colors like Aniversario and Liquidamber.
6: What is the one thing you wish people knew about you as a designer?
I’m committed to teaching crocheters to help them grow in skill and confidence. I don’t want anyone to feel like they are alone in learning, but that they have a teacher ready to help whenever they need one.
Thanks Sarah for sharing your lovely design with us!
