Northerner Version: Verano in Lime and Mora in Sabiduria and Verano in Rain and Mora in Whale’s Road

1: What is your favorite part of your Quickies design and why?

After moving to Maine I realized that the “cold” of NC is very different than the “cold” of Maine. Before I left NC, I had sampled a Double Layer Knitting headband out of Mora and Verano for life up in Maine, but wearing it here I found the coverage insufficient. So when Malabrigo put out the call for designs, designing something that works for winters of all climates became an important part and resulted in both the “Southerner” and “Northerner” styling options that are included in the design.

2: What should knitters pay attention to when working this pattern? Do you have any tips or tricks that will make knitting this pattern easier?

Setting up the Double Layer Knitting is a very important set. It comes with a video! While it is possible to work the set-up while stitching, I find it less fiddling in the long run to pause, rearrange the stitches are required for the set up round, and then proceed with yarns in hand.

3: What do you think knitters will enjoy the most about this project?

I hope they become as fascinated with the technique as I have!

4: What does your design process look like?

It changes from design to design, but for this one it started with a prototype. In the original I had 5 stitches in the lace pattern, but it was rather complex and also caused a bigger variance in the gauge between the two layer than I was expecting. So when it came to designing the actual piece for Malabrigo, I whittled the lace down to 3 stitches, which did not impact the gauge to the point of having a tighter outside than inside. It also made for an easy to remember 2 round pattern repeat for the lace design.
